Crystals are not only beautiful but can be very healing
Judy Hall is a fantastic person to teach about crystals, their properties and how they can be used for healing. She also considers herself to be a psychic and a healer, to which claim you would have to decide for yourself. Nonetheless, when it comes to crystals she knows best and her book sales do prove it.
You can see more about her and her work at: http://www.judyhall.co.uk/
I will use some extracts from her books to describe various crystals in rotation.
In addition to the websites listed on Judy Hall's webpage for crystal shopping you may also wish to look at this one:

Crystals and rocks that are non soluble will do well being cleansed under crisp, chill cold running water. I would not store them overnight in it in case it effects their properties.
Moonlight works well on dense, thick but shiny rocks as these often need recharging. Full moon is great for it also.
Judy Hall also recommends putting your crystals in dry salt overnight but cleansing them thoroughly in the morning of any debris to prevent surface damage or moisture exposure.
As a rule of thumb you want to do that to rough rocks with a powdery finish. Anything of fragile texture may be effected by either salt and water. These should always be charged by the moon or buried in fresh earth in the garden for recharging.
