When to come for my coaching & education
- Come along when your mind is open enough.
I don't mind a critical student as I am a critical teacher and a philosopher. But the way I know I don't fit with a session when I am being taught is when someone who talks infuriates me or I disagree with pretty much everything they say. I think this is where being critical of an argument can come to anger and when we are angry we stop learning as anger stops our mind from being open.
This is not to say that anger in itself is bad as it is my main motivator for creating change. It is also a common fuel behind being passionate which is why so many passionate people are often misunderstood for angry people. We all have our own happy adrenaline level that keeps us motivated.
- Come along when you are ready to drop the crutch.
And I mean really drop it.
Some people come along to sessions only to find another crutch to lean on for hope, help and life saving. No hope, help and life saving happens without you putting in the work yourself. No matter the amount of time you spend or money, nothing will be good enough until you can discern for yourself what is working for yourself. You can have the greatest specialists in the world giving you advice but if you don't trust them or disagree with them then what help can they give? And indeed, some can be wrong too.
Crutch thing can become addictive. I have seen this happen with people latching on to an idea, a friend, a medical method or a family member like this thing or person are their life support. When will you reboot yourself? When will you create yourself?
I doubt you would want someone else feeding off your energy in this way. They can't be you and you can't be them. You can only be you. There is no one else to 'fix you' only you. Even counselling can become the crutch and habit if you are not careful. You have to be very clear what problem or problems you would like to resolve and give yourself some sort of a time limit. The best structured therapy I came across always had those two factors, purpose and time frame. And of course the exercises, self-reflection and work on one's part.
- I am not a therapist
Nor did I reinvent the wheel. On my sub site for coaching and education specifically I may sound quite harsh when I list all the things I am not. I do this so that you can get a realistic view of what you will not find. It can be quite shocking but it is also a wake up call to make you think as to what you really want to get out of 'yet another author, therapist, teacher' thing..
